Look into my eyes

(From George Ndiritu, head of the Haba Na Haba Drama group in Mathare Youth and Sports Association, MYSA, Nairobi, Kenya)

---

Dear Friends,

First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the continued support to Haba na Haba and MYSA.

We are faced by a disturbing political situation that has left hundreds of innocent Kenyans dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. The political violence has de-generated to ethnic violence that is likely to tare this beautiful country apart. We need your prayers and support.

Many Children in Haba na Haba have been affected by this violence, some had all their properties destroyed by fires and others forcefully evicted from their homes and their properties looted., many cannot participate with the creative arts activities that they have grown to love dearly.

In the midst of all violence and chaos, LIFE HAS TO GO ON, we have to help Kenya come out of this situation. The polticians have done their bit which was dividing the people inorder to gather support. We voted them and the hatred they put in our hearts is now manifested by the violence. While they are safe in their Villas surrounded by stone walls and guarded by security men at the gate, we the voters, the common Kenyans live in constant fear.

We beleive we can come out of this situation, thats why we in Haba na Haba have decided to embark on a reconciliation mission. We live together as brothers and sisters and have always chosen to see beyond our tribal affiliations.

Look into my eyes

Look into my eyes,
Do you see my hunger for war,
Or do you see my thirst for love?

Look into my eyes,
Do you see my fear,
Or do you see my eyes well-up with tears,
for the loss of a beloved dear?

Look into my eyes
Do you see my tribe
Or do you see my struggle, my plight, my fight to have a future bright?

Let me look into your eyes
I see my brother, my Sister, my mother, my father
I see my friend and protector.

I once read about fear and it has been one of my guiding principals in life. "IN THE FACE OF FEAR, I CHOOSE TO NOT LOOK AWAY BUT TO CONFRONT IT"

Best regards

George.
